A virtual artist talk with Solitude fellow András Blazsek hosted by the Eastern European Network Program of the Akademie Schloss Solitude
– Táj nincs (There is no landscape) : On Building Geometry from Topographical Data –
took place on Wednesday, 23 February.
“A series of video walkthroughs take participants of the Zoom meeting through the installation. The event is introduced by writer Emily Verla Bovino with On the History of a Split: A Family Story of Practices in Land and Art on the Slovak-Hungarian Border followed by a conversation between artist András Blazsek and Lívia Nolasco-Rózsás, Scientific Associate from ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe.
Installed in a subterranean hall (Unterer Hirschgang) of the Schloss, Táj nincs takes us to Slovakia, where a large part of the natural landscape around the Danube River is concealed beneath an architectural environment. The Gabčíkovo Dam changed the landscape and natural borders: it split villages and transformed social and ecological life in the region. András explores this irreversible transformation through data visualization using the technologies of photogrammetry, 3D design, glass sculpture and light projection.
The project started with the open-format exhibition Horizons at Schloss Solitude where András showed a 3D animation that he used to develop the installation. Horizons showed current works of fellows from the Eastern European Network of the Akademie Schloss from 10.12.2021 until 27.01.2022. Participating artists included Anca Benera & Arnold Estefán, András Blazsek, Krasimira Butseva, Barbara Gryka, Jasmina Hanf & Karolina Kaltschnee, and Luana Lojic.”
